Artemovsk Debaltsevo

Artemovsk - regional center on Bakhmutka river (Don drainage basin), 81 km from Donetsk. Railroad station. Settlement appeared in XVII century. Until 1924 it was called Bakhmut, from 1783 the settlement became a city.
City square is 4155 ha, 2273 ha of this square are used by buildings. Parks and squares take 1093 ha, including 390 ha of common use.
Population is 91,8 000 people. Population is prevailingly employed in industry (43,7%) of the total number of the employed), transport(7,3%), construction(6,3%). The city is an industrial center. Main industrial branches are: salt ("Artemsol" company); non-ferrous metallurgy (non-ferrous metals processing plant); machinery and metal processing (experimental machinery, electrotechnial plants); construction materials and construction industry (fire-proof materials, ceramic pipes, construction parts, "HydroConcrete" factories); pharmacy; clothing, shoe plants; food (champagne, bakery, meat, food plants).
The scientific research institute of salt industry is situated in the city.

In the city there are 15 high and 2 music schools, 5 trade schools, 3 colleges; 12 hospitals; 54 libraries,5 palaces and 2 houses of culture, 3 cinemas, 2 museum: history of the region and geologic.

Debaltsevo, 84 km from Donetsk. Rail road and highway junction. Founded in 1878 in connection with Ekaterininskoy rail road construction. Became a city from 1938.
